Graham & Luzerne, Muhlenberg Co. KY

Both Graham and Luzerne were founded by William G.(raham) Duncan as coal camps in the first years of the 1900's. According to Rothert's 1913 History of Muhlenberg County pgs.396-7, Graham-Skibo mine was opened in 1903 by W.G. Duncan and in 1913 was the largest coal-producer in the county and the best equipped mine in Western KY. Luzerne was opened in 1900 by Mr. Duncan also. Many families moved to them for work, either in the mines or in support roles. Because of the importance of the coal industry to the families of Thomas Elliot Vinson and James (Napoleon) B. Tarrants, I am including here some early scenes from those towns.
