COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course provides an overview of =
the
system development life cycle. The course develops the ability to analyze an
existing information system within an organization, to identify information
requirements, and to specify the functions of a new system using the
traditional approach to systems analysis and data modeling.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
MEASUREMENT CRITERIA FOR OBJECTIVES: There will be
examinations, quizzes, and/or projects during the semester. The exams and
quizzes must be taken when they are scheduled, using testing materials or c=
lass
software as required by the instructor. In addition there will be a series =
of
homework assignments/projects that are based on case studies that illustrate
the concepts of the material being taught. At the end of the semester, an o=
ral
presentation will provide a course capstone experience for the student. For
full credit these must be completed and turned in ON TIME

GRADING CRITERIA: There will be four unit tests during=
the
semester. Providing the attendance policy is met, the test with the lowest
grade will be dropped. The test must be taken in class when they are schedu=
led.
No make-up tests will be given. In addition there will be a series of homew=
ork
assignments and other in class projects. For full credit these must be
completed and turned in ON TIME. The final grade will be calculated as foll=
ows:

Unit Tests: 50%

Homework: 25%
·
End of semester oral report: 25%
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance will be taken and students
are expected to attend every class, but regardless of attendance you are
required to know the material, assignments, and information provided in eve=
ry
class session. A late arrival to a class may be counted as ½ an abse=
nce.
The only valid excuses will be those from the health center or another coll=
ege
staff member in accordance with campus policy. In order to have the lowest =
quiz
grade dropped, students must have six or fewer class hour absences (this me=
ans
six classes for 50 minute classes, or 4 classes for 75 minute classes.
ACADEMIC HONESTY: Examinations and assignments must
represent the individual work of the student. Copying, giving or receiving =
aid
is a waste of your time and mine and will not be tolerated. Should such
activity be detected the student will receive a grade of zero for the exam =
or
assignment.
STUDENT CONDUCT IN THE CLASSROOM: The instructor in the classroom and in
conference will encourage free discussion, inquiry and expression. Student
performance will be evaluated wholly on an academic basis, not on opinions =
or
political ideas unrelated to academic standards. However, in instances wher=
e a
student does not comply with the Code of Student Behavior or with an
instructor's reasonable conduct expectations in the classroom, such
non-compliance can affect the student's evaluation and be cause for permane=
nt
removal from class or dismissal from College.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY: If a faculty member discovers that a student has committed an
academic integrity violation that warrants a sanction beyond a verbal warni=
ng,
such as cheating or plagiarizing, the procedures outlined in the Academic

CELL PHONES/TAPE RECORDERS/ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM=
: Students are required to turn off cell phon=
es
(blackberries, etc.) in class and may not use recording devices, unless the
student has a documented disability which permits recording, or permission =
of
the course instructor. A student's refusal to turn off a cell phone
(blackberry, etc.) will be cause for dismissal from class. In addition, use=
of
ANY electronic devices (for text messaging, listening to MP3 players,
inappropriate use of a laptop, etc.) which disrupt class will also be cause=
for
dismissal from that class.
NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION LAW - ABSENCES FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS:=
Section 224-A allows a student to be excused
from any examination or study or work requirements because of religious
holidays. Each student must notify the instructor in advance so that an
equivalent opportunity to make up any examination, study or work requiremen=
ts
he or she may have missed because of such absence may be given.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: SUNY Delhi is a residential campus and stays open unless the
governor closes the College. Simply stated, class will rarely be canceled. I
will change my office phone message if I am not coming in due to inclement
weather.
